What Was Arafat Doing in Khartoum?
The world is absorbed by the disappearance and reappearance of Arafat, but pays no attention to the background of the bizarre incident. Only a day before the "plane crash" the New York Times reported on the virtual decline if not demise of Arafat's political standing among his own people, who accuse him of gross corruption and misjudgments. Next, a "crash" takes place, and he reappears, at least for the moment, as a hero: Was there anything fishy about this alleged "crash"? The answer is best left to your imagination. A cardinal question in all this is: what was Arafat doing in Khartoum? Nobody has asked that question! In the confusion which reigned during Arafat's absence, the PLO committed a significant blunder: they released to the media a video clip showing an elaborate ceremony in Khartoum in which Arafat, just before departing by plane, was honored by the Sudanese ruler, Gen. Omar el-Bashir, a common criminal of the Saddam Hussein class. He is the man who recently ordered 400,000 black Christians from southern Sudan deported into the desert, without food or drink, to die of exposure and hunger -- unless they convert to Islam. The honor he gave Arafat proves that the two are "comrades in arms," just as Arafat was "comrade in arms" with Idi Amin, training his goons in the fine art of killing some 300,000 black Christians in Uganda. He also became the declared "comrade in arms" of Nelson Mandela, after which wholesale massacres of countless Zulus by Mandela's ANC men ensued. The media reported that the PLO has "training camps" near the Sudan, just as the PLO had training camps at various times in Uganda, Lebanon, and South Africa. Who will investigate the role of the PLO in the outburst of criminal violence in any area where Arafat appears? What will the visit to Khartoum lead to? The "crash" has fortunately opened the world's eyes to the secretive and sinister machinations of Arafat into hitherto unchartered areas. Hopefully this will lead to the curtailing of further crimes and murders of Christians in the Sudan. Maybe the Christian churches, which have been so busy bashing Israel for unspecified excesses against Palestinians, should now start worrying about the large-scale danger which the PLO constitutes to Christians everywhere.
