Iraqgate - More Revelations

Iraqgate - More Revelations June 12, 1992

Under the consistent and unrelenting investigation led by Congressman Henry B. Gonzalez of Texas, more and more revelations are coming out, throwing new light on the highly questionable policies of the Bush-Baker team with regard to Iraq.

When I sent Congressman Gonzalez copies of my recent columns on this explosive subject, he promptly answered me: "I received your letter and I want to let you know how deeply grateful I am to you for your support and encouragement. Please be assured that I will continue to investigate and report on matters relating to the involvement of high-level Government officials of the Reagan and Bush Administrations with Saddam Hussein prior to the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq in 1990. My work will continue until the truth is fully revealed and safeguards are in place to prevent such policy failures and scandals in the future."

Although the New York Times has, after much conspicuous delay, started reporting the revelations in the Iraqgate investigation, more can be read about it in the International Herald Tribune published in Paris. There it shows that 1. Washington knew full well that Iraq was harboring terrorists, such as Abbas and Abu Nidal, but covered up for them and told Congress that Iraq was not harboring terrorists, and that 2. the Bush-Baker team desperately tried to keep Iraq off the list of countries supporting terrorism, because keeping Iraq on that list "would have interrupted several billion dollars worth of U.S. - Iraq trade." (Tribune of June 8th).

In other words, someone was doing a lot of business, and making a heap of money off that trade - so never mind that numerous killings of Jews and others emanated from Iraq. The question is, who was doing all this profitable business? Who had so much influence in the White House and the State Department that by hook or by crook the truth had to be kept from Congress? No doubt this will be the main target of the Congressional investigation. One may also conjecture that the same business interests are behind the premature ending of the Gulf War, and that they may be observed doing similar kinds of business with Iraq or Kuwait again today.

Jonathan Pollard - An American Patriot?

Recently revealed documents show that the United States was secretly supplying strategic materials to Iraq, thereby building up a great threat to peace in the area and creating a direct mortal danger to America's time-tested ally, Israel. As this went on already during the Reagan Administration under Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger, it seems likely that Jonathon Pollard was privy to these dangerous goings-on and therefore had, in the interest of the U.S. as well as her allies, to warn Israel of the mortal peril which was escalating in Iraq with American connivance. Has Pollard been kept in solitary confinement for 7 years so he won't be able to tell the truth? The Congressional investigation seems to logically point in the direction of an investigation of the Pollard case as well.
